Driving Logic’s online Delaware Defensive Driving Course is coming soon. In Delaware, finishing a defensive driving course approved by the Division of Motor Vehicles can bring a 3-point credit on your driving record and a 3-year reduction on part of your auto insurance premium.
What Is Delaware Defensive Driving?
The Delaware DMV approves defensive driving courses, and approved providers teach them. The Basic course runs at least 6 hours, and the Refresher course runs at least 3 hours. You can take the Refresher no less than two years and six months, and no more than five years, after your first course.
What Finishing a Course Can Do
- 3-point credit: it is added to your driving record on the date you finish. It applies only to future violations, in certain circumstances, and does not lower your current point total.
- Insurance reduction: 10% off the bodily injury, property damage and personal injury protection parts of your premium for 3 years. It is prorated if not every driver on the policy finished. An on-time Refresher earns 15%.
- Voluntary courses only: courses ordered by a court or required by the DMV do not earn the insurance reduction.
